part of the making it special in my view is the agony of the wait. I have already nearly finished my shopping and written Yule cards.. BUT i'm an old stickler, we won't decorate until a week before and the tree goes up ALWAYS in our house on solstice eve... i think it adds to the wonder of the season... the anxiosness of waiting...meanwhile we fa la la all we want baking cookies from now til the solstice.... we can't help it we are Polish.. its not a holiday unless some woman died in the kitchen baking...
Cool Yule to YOu!

not until after my youngest's birthday... which is the 16th of december. and then we don't go 'all out', no lights outside, etc. we do a tree, that's about it :)

The inside is almost done. Most people around here start Thanksgiving weekend. I've almost finished the inside. The tree is up and stuff. My hubbie and son are working on the outside tonight :)

Most people around here start on Thanksgiving day! I haven't started yet, but I probably will soon.

we decorate the day before or possibly the day before that ie. 23rd or 24th dec. I'm guessing it's because none of the family buys into all of the comercialism and because the youngest family member is 19 (ie. no little kids). In addition, often someone doesn't arrive until a day ortwo before, and you can't decorrate without the whole family.

I usually start the day right after Thanksgiving but this year got a late start and am actually in process of decorating the tree as of this moment. It's about 3/4 done. I don't care what other people think about it being too early--I love the sparklies, love decorating, and leave the tree up a month because I detest winter and it helps me get through the dark days we have here (overcast/raining most of the time) without being so depressed. I take it down shortly after Yule. (Artificial tree, though--with a live tree, I wouldn't put it up so soon because of the fire hazard). I'll finish up the house over this week.

My mom and I are kids at heart...we used to wait till Dec 1st (mom's b-day) but a couple of years ago, we started Thanksgiving weekend...The tree is put together with the lights, beads and some of the ornaments (I'll finfsh the rest this week), we have our garland up but we still have to put the knick knacks up...when I'm done with finals (Dec 15th) I'll start the baking!

we usually try to decorate on thanksgiving. if my dad had his way, the decorations would stay up year-round. heck, one year we had 28 trees up. of course, we might not decorate at all this year, if things don't turn out right.

I'm a traditionalist. 12 days before, the deccies and the tree go up, 12 days after, they come down.

Well, this year we put up the tree and stockings the day after Thanksgiving. We don't put up lights, just tree and stockings.

Usually, though, it's the week before (or sometimes the day of) Christmas.

I've got almost everything up now. Tree still needs candy canes on it--they go so well with our burgundy/ivory/gold scheme. And I need to put up a couple of pearl garlands and make a wreath for the outer door as well as for the inner one, but almost done! Will take pics and post pretty soon.

The day I buy an actual web cam, they'll have to bury me three feet deep. LOL...but I have a digital camera and will be shooting a lot of shots this year, as well as with my 'real' camera!

I finally chose a Sony Cybershot (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=DSCW1&Dept=dcc_DIDigitalCameras&CategoryName=dcc_DIDigitalCameras_Cyber-shotDigitalCameras)

It's a good camera, though it gives a slightly off-cast to the color. Not enough to be a problem, and for the money, it's pretty easy to use and gives good quality photos.

I usually start the weekedn after thanksgiving. This year is going to be a little later. Hopefully this weekend. I already have a small Yule tree in my bedroom, that is a natural looking tree, decorated with twinkling lights and things from nature. My regular tree will go up soon, along with my other decorations.

Here are some of the first pictures of the season I've taken. Not quite through with the tree, but it's close. And the cats, of course, are just being themselves. ~grins~ I'll get Tara with the santa hat soon.

We mailed off the presents yesterday that have to go to other states or overseas, sent out the Yule cards and holiday letters, bought the food for next week's party (and will finish that today)...I have a little more decorating to do but not much. Yep....can just enjoy the season this year!

Usually, the lights get put up outside the day after Thanksgiving. I'm going to start decorating the inside thoroughly next week. I've been busy tidying up the house in the meantime. Shopping has kept me busy in the meantime. :heartthro

Oh they LOVE going "unnadatree"...jungle wannabes, you know! The santa hat is not quite so universally loved...or liked...or tolerated. ~grins~

I just braved the crowds and bought the decorations to finish up the foyer so will do pics of that when they're up (up here it's crazy during Yule/Christmas--we are the shopping Mecca of the northwest and you learn to shop like it's an art form, but also you learn how to navigate flying carts, frantic soccer moms, and the like). Have everything for the Yule party now, even if I can't eat most of it *sighs*, and Sam's going out to pick up the new stereo tonight. (I had a great older stereo--five years old--but it doesn't do MP3s and we program a lot of music in that form, and my sister needed a new stereo so I gave her my old one and am buying a more compact one that won't take up so much space and yet does MP3's).
