Okay..I'm going to be moving in a month and I have no idea what to do in my new bedroom. I want to do something different..I mean I've lived in this house for so long and have always had basically the same furniture and 'style' here and I need to change it. I know I want something bright but peacefull, so I was thinking about blues..but I'm not sure. The other thing is that I work in a movie theater so I have tons of posters and banners that I could put up only I don't know how I could work that in with the rest of the room and if they go up I wouldn't want them to seem out of place.
Anyways I just wanna get some opinions

My room is a light sky blue with clouds on the ceiling. All the wood in the room is very dark and reminded me of trees in the forest. So I proceeded to turn my bedroom into an outdoor "garden" complete with butterflies, green flooring painted to look like a mossy brick walkway, flowers, wisps of tall grasses. I eventually ended up with an altar at every direction and perform ritual in there when I can't go outside. I also have a big picture window to the south that shows off my fairy garden, so I've got the best of the outdoors inside. Just a thought, but you mentioned blue...

My daughter once had her room painted a super dark midnight blue and decorated the walls and ceiling with glow in the dark stars. That was very cool at night!

I have so many ideas... but I'm not an artist, so painting huge, sweeping, magical scenes on the wall probably wouldn't work. I like your idea, though, Lady Jade.

I would love to have a seasonal theme... a different season in every room of the house... or different elements, or different weather... I have too many ideas, not enough rooms. :D You could turn your bedroom into a faerie court, or a winter wonderland, or a beautiful summer day... paint green hills on your wall, and blue carrying on onto your ceiling, then paint clouds on your ceiling.

Blue is a great colour for the bedroom as it is very peaceful and uplifting at the same time. Hanging your movie posters is a good idea but only if you truely want to look at them (not just because you have them) and maybe ones that seem calm or romantic. I guess you should ask yourself some questions to determine the type of style you might want:

Are you looking for....
1) Calm, neat, sparse with simple decor? Maybe the Zen or asian inspired look?
2) Romantic, lots of fabric/lace, soft tones, feminine? Like a princess or victorian or fairytale look?
3) Earthy, neutral tones, textures, and plants? Like a retreat or spa feeling where you could read a good book?

Do any of these qualities hit home for you? Also what are your top 3 favorite colours?

Also in feng shui the bedroom is a good place to use sets of objects. This is good for bring balance in relationships to your life. So instead of a single candle, use a pair. Instead of a picture with one person alone use a picture with a couple.

Ahhh, Well..they all hit home actually lol
I want to do something that kinda has all of those qualities, I like the peaceful spa feeling-although sometimes they seem way too clean and like sterilized to where your afraid to touch anything or even cough or burp lol There will definatly be plants, but I figured I'd figure that part out later. I like the Zen look, it's very simple but seems like it would be complex..and I'm not looking so much for a romantic style but I do like the fabrics..I was thinking of satin or silky types.
As for my fav. colors..Blue, silver and pink..I've had pink in my room for years though so I'm gonna stay away from that one.
I just started thinking about making the diamond shaped padding things for the walls..not a good explination-I'll try to find a pic on here, if I do I'll attach it. Anyways thats all I have in my head for right now..I'll be back though :chatty:

If blue is one of your favorite colours you should definitely use it! Go to the paint shop and look at the blues you like. Consider using a lighter shade on 3 walls and ceiling and a much darker shade on one central wall. Maybe the wall your bed will be on. I am not a big fan of faux finishes because I think most people do not have the skills to make them look good hehehehe If you want to add embelishments use stencils or stamps! There are many at the craft store and you can use pink, blue, or even metalic silver paint.

If you paint one wall a darker blue it would look cool with silver accents like a mirror or hanging vase or candle holders on it. Perhaps on either side of your bed. Depending on the type of windows you have you can buy or sew some curtains using silky or satiny fabrics. Darker blue, smoky grey blue, or dark purple would look great! If the windows are long use curtains that go all the way to the floor. Also use the same fabric to make some accent pillows. Satin fabric at the fabric store tends to be inexpensive and comes in many colours.

Accessories that give that Pagan/Spa/Zen/relaxation feeling are plants, candles, crystals and stones, and fountains. If you are floor lounging type dedicate a corner of the room for big pillows and a small low table. You can drape the table with a pretty silky scarf. If you have book shelves don't just line the books up. Things look less stuffy if you line up a few books, add a picture, stack a couple of books, add a candle, etc... More visual interest.

Hope these ideas help and have fun!! :fpompoms

Those ideas did help, I like the pillows/table idea and the contrasting dark and lite blues. Now I'm gonna need to figure out how to get all of my furniture in there lol
Thanks again guys. I gotta get ready for work woohoo!!

I just moved and had to do the same thing. What I did was took everything in my current room and examined it..... decided on a theme and went with it.

The movie posters are great because you can look at them for their artistic quality and coordinate from there.

Watching Trading Spaces teaches you how to expand on colors and themes. They take an object and design the room around the object.... say a scarf.

You can take the movie posters, find a color theme and go with it.

Nice Signature banner by the way...... I'm addicted to the game!!

Okay, I think we need to add some pictures to this thread!! right now my room is a mess, but as soon as I get my new house (next 4 years), I am doing it in a gypsy, gothic, pagan style. Hopefully it will be very stunning. I will probably use burt oranges, browns, and reds. And I want one of those nets to hang over my bed. A black one.

Okay, theres a change in my plans lol
My room is now basically gonna be celestial themed..I wanted to do something else but I already have the bed set for it and for christmas people bought me a bunch of other stuff to put in my room so, instead of leaving it all in the garage I'm gonna try it out for awhile.
Anyways I still have a problem..
I don't know how to paint it.. I still what to use alot of fabrics but that part might have to wait til later so I plan on painting right after I move in. The obvious color is navy or midnight blue keeping with the whole theme and bed and all, but I don't want it to be all just one color. I was thinking about painting the planets on the ceiling and tops of the walls, but like I said I dont want it one color and I don't know how I'd be able to bring another one in. So yeah if anyone has any advice for that I'd apreciate it. And thanks for all of the other ideas, they will come in handy when I redecorate _happydanc
