SIGN UPS ARE NOW CLOSED If you wish to sign up for this class, you will be put on a first come first serve list in case anyone drops out. Only if a student drops out will you be invited to join the class.
This class will be offered again in April or May.
This is the thread where you can sign up for the class. Let me repeat my previous post and say, serious students only, please. Only sign up if you know that you can participate.
When you sign up, please post a brief discription of yourself and your experience with tarot, as well as if you have a tarot deck or not, and if you do which one (as I know many people have more than one deck) you will be using for this class.
Deadline for signups is December 12. The first class will be posted on December 13th.
As for my intro....
I'm 26 years old, married and a stay at home mom to my 14 month old son. I've been reading tarot for 8 years, professionally and personally. At one point I had many decks but have weeded them down over the years...mostly giving them away to people who need them more than I do. For this class I will be using the Gendron Tarot.

I'm 15 years old and have been studyting various occult topics for four years. I have been interested in the tarot for years, but only stated a deep study on it this past summer. I have both the Rider-Waite and the Robin Wood. For this class I will be using the Robin Wood tarot because that's the only one I really use.

Hello :)
I'm 22 years old and have had an interest in Tarot for about nine years. I have studied tarot since that time but not in a serious way. At the moment, I only do readings for myself. I am excited to join this class and to become more knowledgable and comfortable with my cards. For this class I will be using the Mythic Tarot.

Hi, I am 38 years old. I have always had an interest in tarot...but I am a newbie to reading cards. I currently have three decks....and just acquired two more. My favorite deck so far is the arthurian tarot.

Hi. I'm 24, and I've had an interest in the tarot since I was about 8. My mom had a deck that she used to play around with, and when she lost interest in it, she passed it down to me. It's Tarot of the Cat People, but it won't be the deck I'll be using here. Anyway, I've played around with it quite a lot since then always trying to do reading for myself and friends, but it's so hard to read :( About a year ago, I realized that now would be the time to seriously start learning the tarot. It's almost like something in me was having me wait. I decided that it might help to get a deck that was all my own so I did a little research and ended up getting a deck that one of my old friends had, the Robin Wood deck (the deck I'll be using). She had done a reading for me using that deck once, and I really liked it and during the reading sometimes I would know what she was going to say before she said it. Not only that, but I know that it's also a good beginners deck. I do own a book on beginners tarot, and that's what I have been using to study with, but I think a class would be awesome to take :floating:
Ohh, sorry my intro is a little long _inabox_

Hello, I'm 56 and an amature as regards tarot. I have done some really intense studies of some of the major arcanas that are posted in the tarot thread, but I have many more that I am researching. I'm really interested in the symbolizm, and the psychology aspects of the tarot. I believe knowledge of the history and symbolizm help one read the cards better. I'm glad that we are going through this. I have not completed my intense studies because the thread they were posted in did not want that kind of input. I have worked on some of these others, but work and other interests have caused me to put this on the back burner. However, I'm ready to go forward with this class.
The cards I have are too numerous to mention, I have been collecting them for years. Just collecting, not reading or studying. Not sure what that was about. However, I have the RWS and Thoth, but will use the RWS cuz I like they symbolizm best. I also have the Lakota Sweat Lodge Cards, and Froud's Fairy that are oracles rather than a tarot. I do read these often because they are easy for me to read.
Enough about me.
Thx for doing this class Amethyst Rose.

Hi Amethyst et all. I'm almost 25, have been working with tarot for a few years, and own several decks - the unicorn tarot, the goddess tarot, the ancient egyptian tarot, the tarot of a moon garden, and the quest tarot, which is the one I will be using for this class.

Hmm, it feels kind of odd introducing myself since I've been here for awhile, but here goes. ;)
I'm 22 and a practicing witch of 10 years or so (give or take a few months). I've studied many forms of divination over the years (runes, scrying, geomancy, dowsing, pendelum workings, etc.) and shunned the tarot for the most part. I've owned several decks over the years, but would always rid myself of them for one reason or another (Mythic Tarot and Tarot of the Witches to name two). Currently I own Whimsical Tarot (was a gift), Sacred Circle tarot (that I plan to sell since it never suited me), Goddess Tarot (that I removed three cards from to represent my patrons on my altar for the time being), and a few oracle decks. The only deck that sincerely matters to me is one I purchased after a lot of serious studying and examination of various decks a few months ago, the Celtic Dragon Tarot, which is what I'll be using for this class. I've done several readings off and on over about 6 months, most of which I was told were eerily accurate. I've done a lot of other work with this deck, including meditations, contacting a guide specific to this deck, and a few other things, so due to my experience in the craft I suppose I've been able to pack a great deal into such a short period of time.
There you have it, a brief (well, semi-brief) history of me and this lil' thing we call tarot.

I'm 16 and a senior in high school. i have always been interested in tarot, ever since i discovered my mom's deck way back when... anyways, i started learning about 5 years ago, but until recently, i haven't really been focused on it. so now i can do basic readings, and they are usually pretty accurate. anyways, for this class i suppose i will be using my phantasmagoric theater deck, although i'm not entirely sure... i have yet to decide on it...

Hi, I'm Andrew, generaly known as CE around here. I'm 17, a senior in highschool, and I'm not very traditional with tarot. I picked up a Parrott Tarot deck a few years ago and played around with it, but it just sits on my shelf now. I have a Dragon Tarot, which I give the individual cards away to people. The deck I do use, is the Thoth deck. I loved the art, and a friend bought it for me for my birthday. I sort of faked my own method of reading, but it's always seemed to work out, with suprisingly accurate results. I also have the Osho Zen set, simply because the art was too amazing to pass up. I've only used it once, and the reading went way over my head. My current experiment is to perfect the blending of runes and tarot as divinatory devices. I've been doing that off and on for about a year, and sometimes it is extremely accurate, and othertimes it just gets confusing.
/end ramble.
((All those words translate into: Hey, I'd love to join!))
For the class I'd probably use the Thoth deck, but I might switch over to the Osho deck, or do everything with both of them. Who knows, by the end of it, I might be able to combine them together. (I like synthesis)

Welcome, Clockwork Eros! I have the Osho Zen deck as well, and I agree, it has beautiful art. The readings I got from it went over my head, too, and I've only used it a couple of times. :) Welcome to the class!

I'm 30, male. Have a little experience with tarot. I have done some readings in the past.

Looking forward to an enjoyable class.

Greetings! 35 year old. I've been interested in Tarot for over fifteen years, but too daunted to try learning it. I finally started picking it up slowly over the past half year or so. I have been studying one card at a time and it is slow going. I am having dreadful trouble with reversals and court cards.
I am using the Goddess Tarot (love the deck but the Court cards are plain and hard to read) and also have a mini Rider-Waite deck (it doesn't do much for me). I would like another deck and am looking at either Robin Wood or Morgan Greer ( I think it is)...
I have been waiting for a Tarot class to start again and am VERY excited!

My name is Elise--I'm 45...I've been reading professionally for a couple of years, but longer than that for friends and family. I belong to the Society for Soothsayers, Seers and Sages & Oklahoma Psychic Education and Research Assoc....have been tested and credentialed by both. I own quite a few decks...but it seems the most popular is the Celtic Dragon here, so I'll use that deck.
My new favorite deck though is the Shapeshifter Tarot deck. It has Swords as Fire and Wands as Air...which follow my Tradition training, so it makes more sense for me. I just tend to switch it on other decks anyway.

I am at work and my decks are at home so I can't say what deck I am going to use. Or even what decks I own as I often gift decks. The Cosmic Tarot is my all time favorite thus far though.

I don't have much experience with Tarot, except that I did a reading with some cards when I was in High School that, if I remember correctly, basically said I would find a tall man with red hair. :D ^_^ Anyhow, I don't have any tarot cards. :( But I'm very interested in learning, and possibly making my own deck (it'll be a lot of work...).

December 7th, 2004, 12:57 PM
Welcome, Wolfscout1! The Golden Tarot have favorable reviews. The art is really quite well done...almost intriguing to me. It's not my personal style, but it's still really nice. Apparently it's imagery is based on the Rider-Waite, so it's pretty basic, although the art may be a little more difficult to interpret, and it's suggested to be a good deck for experienced readers. Aeclectic Tarot (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot) gives it 5/5 stars, so if you like it, and want a bit of a challenge, then I say go for it. :)
By the way, how old are you, and how much experience have you had with the cards?

(i have an a.a.s.).
i have the celtic tarot deck, as its the one that has felt most comfortable to me. i also only use the past, present, future spread (typical 9 cards, unless you need an additional future 3 card to clarify). its the only spread i've felt ok with doing, as celtic cross and such confuse me (i just don't 'get' the reverse on cards).

Welcome Gaia21, goldcat79 and celticfire!! I'm glad you signed up. :)
goldcat79, can you please introduce yourself? Tell us how old you are, how much experience you have with tarot, and what deck you'll be using for the class (if you have one).

I am signing up.
When you sign up, please post a brief discription of yourself and your experience with tarot, as well as if you have a tarot deck or not, and if you do which one (as I know many people have more than one deck) you will be using for this class.
I'm Michele, 35 years old, and have had only minor experience with tarot. I have the Rider-Waite tarot deck, and some books on the subject (not gonna dig them out right now). My tarot cards have mostly been charged with my own positive energy several times over, and stay on my nightstand by my bed. I rarely actually take them out of the box, and I'm pretty picky about others touching them (cats, okay, people, no way). Anything else you want to know?

Ahoy. I'm 20 and have been reading for about 4 years now - sporadically. I have major problems with court cards and reversals. :2G: I have 7 decks, but for this, I think I'll be using Universal Waite (and possibly Spiral for past-life.)

Hello!
I'm not really a lurker, I just don't say anything unless what I have to say is worth saying. :twitch:
I'm 39. I've recently started along the path of ceremonial magic, so Tarot is something I need to learn eventually... why not begin now, since there's a class starting? :clapping:
I have a Tarot of Marseilles, the Golden Dawn Magical Tarot, and the one I'll be using for the class, the Universal Waite.
I look forward to learning!

I'll join in the class. I've been reading for 6 years but I've never had the opportunity to discuss or compare with others. I primarily use the Vertigo Tarot to read from which I have found produces sometimes very different readings than from the same spread with different decks. But the post-modern, dark feel of the cards just speaks to me .... not sure what that says about my psyche but there you go! Basically, I'd just like to follow along and do the exercises to hone my own skills and to learn from the group in a constructivist kind of way. Hopefully your enthusiasm will be infectious because I've been trying to motivate myself to go around to a few cafes in my area and start reading since haven't had the chance to read for anyone but myself in a while.
I also have a few other decks that I would not have a problem donating. Unfortunately supplies are limited. I contacted the donation program but haven't gotten a reply from them yet. If you need a deck, PM me and hopefully I won't be stepping on the donation program's toes by going freelance until I hear from them. I'll even pay shipping if you can't. Blessings!

Hello, I'd like to join the class too. I'm new to the community and this is my first class. I've been learning the Tarot off and on on my own for about five years but have never stuck with a serious course and I was just yesterday thinking to myself that I chould find one. I have a number of decks but I think I'll be using the Zerner-Farber (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/zerner-farber/) deck as it was my first one and my "learning deck".

Wheeeeeee. I found the two new tarot books that I got, so I thought I'd tell you what they were. Hee hee hee. The first one is POWER TAROT by Trish MacGregor and Phyllis Vega. The other is THE COMPLETE BOOK OF TAROT REVERSALS by Mary K. Greer. I know I have other books buried in the bookpile, but they probably won't get dug out again until well after New Year's.
Any suggestions on other good books to get for Tarot? I figure if I'm going to really learn, I need to submerge myself (I do this a lot) and delve deeper. I learn a lot that way, and it sticks with me.

Hi! I'm new to MW and new to Tarot. I've recently purchased The Art of Tarot deck, which I'm very pleased with (well, it's gorgeous, anyway). I've only done 2 readings, both helped by the guide that came with the book, but both have been amazingly successful and accurate, and I'm ready and willing to learn more! :)

Hi Amythist,
I have been self learning/teaching for about a year now. I am very interested in the Kabbalistic aspects of the Tarot and it's Tree of Life. That was my initial interest...but I am open to learning EVERYTHING you have to offer. I am 36 years old..divorced...after feeling like I was living in a fog for 30 years..I am finally stepping out of it and coming into myself.....Ok..I'm kind of exagerating, but you get the picture. use the Wade Ryder deck, and recentky purchased a deck created by a local light worker. I just started to read a book about using Tarot with dream analysis..so I thought it was a good idea to start with a fresh pack.
I am looking forward to learning with you and the group.
Blessings,
Ahava :heartthro

I would also like to join this class.I've always been interested in Tarot, but I only just bought my first deck earlier this year.I'm a 29yo stay-at-home mom,and I have a 6yo son who wants me to teach him,so I thought I had better learn the proper way of doing it cause I have no idea how to do a spread or anything.I own the Faerie Oracle and the Gendron deck as well.As far as books go I have How to read the Tarot and I also have Tarot Spells.
