We got an eviction notice. Rent is days late. My roommate is waiting for his financial aid to go through.... but his parents still havn't done the paperwork, because they're homeless and resentful. I don't know what to do... I can't make this anxiety attack stop... please send energy.

Does it help to know that the landlord HAS to give you a 3 day notice before filing in the Courts for an actual eviction order? Once he tapes the 3 day notice to your door, he has to wait 1 week or so to file with the Court for real, then they set a date often times at least another week away, then when you finally go to Court you have the chance to try to work something out with your landlord if you can get a free legal aid attorney to help with the negotiations. If you are paid up before you go to Court, then they have to drop the proceedings and the entire eviction thingie goes away completely. As long as they accept the past due rent, all is well. If you do go to Court and they order an eviction, they give you 1 week to get out then.

I'm looking up the landlord tennant act right now. So... we're looking at three days before he can start charging us for a lawyer too...

What a horrible thing for you to have to deal with, especially this time of year. One would hope the landlord would have some compassion for your situation. I can never never understand why people with no compassion go into the business of providing people with homes. I know the landlord has to make a living as well but he/she should realize you are not a deadbeat. I am sending many good wishes your way.

If you can come up with the money to pay the rent (outside of the Finacial Aid) I would ask the landlord if you could maybe get an extension to pay the rent and give her a date maybe. I also don't want to add more stress but I would not rely on your roomies finacial aid...specially if the work hasn't been turned in yet. My first time applying for finacial aid it took me months to actually get it.

I'm so very sorry you are going through this. I've been there entirely too many times. I'll be certain to light a candle for you.

Besides trying to work out an extension and the other things suggested, you can check with local churches to find out if there is any assistance available. You don't necessarily have to be a member of a church to get help from them. Try Catholic Family Services, local county welfare offices, and the Salvation Army. Sometimes even if the place you contact can't help, at least they can refer you to someone who can.

It may help to know that You usually have 30 days before you go to court and then,( depending on the Judge), can still get like 2 weeks before they will actually come out ot evict You. During that time they urge You and the Landlord to work out payment arrangements.

We managed to get half paid last night. A friend realised that he could do something with the severity of the situation. Now... I don't know... we're supposed to get him the other half today (id rather keep him happy than worry about court)... and he said that if we got the rest to him today, that he'd waive the fees! :D

Now I just need to figure out how to come up with another $450....

Ok... I think it's dealt with!!! My mother is going to skip some of her bills and send me money tomorrow. I'm hoping that this isn't going to be an issue for the landlord.... but there isn't a lot of choice...

I would never become Homeless because I have Three Sacred Groves. My Primary Sacred Grove is the Apartment Building I manage, which can be taken from me if I ever get Dismissed or Fired.

If I ever got Dismissed or Fired, and then made "Homeless", I would just go to one of my other two Sacred Groves. I would pack up my Camping Equipment and head off to one of my other two Sacred Groves, which is a secluded spot in the middle of the UBC Endownment Lands, or my Sacred Grove which is about 25 Kilometers up the Eastern Shore of Harrison Lake.

If I was looking into finding work in Vancouver and had to be able to check my messages occasionally, I would stay at my Sacred Grove in UBC.

If I did not care about finding work in Vancouver, and wanted to spend some time in total solitude without any sort of interruption, I would got off to my Sacred Grove at Harrison Lake.
