View Full Version : Healing from Surgery

I had my gallbladder removed on Monday. I was out of work for 3 weeks previous to the surgery.
Send some energy my way? I'm still hurting pretty bad, I spent the Solstice in bed. I'd like to be well enough to see my family this weekend for their Christmas, my Yule. I'm worried that this surgery hasn't taken care of the problem completely, as that same pain I had prior still remains.
Sorry for the ill-constructed post, between the pain and the Darvoset, I'm not quite myself.

Healing energies sent Hun! Get plenty of rest as you are recovering from a surgery that even though isn't considered life threatening, is still a major adjustment for your body. Depending on how bad it was before the surgery, it can take awhile for your body to get back to normal. I was so sick before I had mine out that all I ate for almost two months was soda crackers and water, with the occasional Dr. Pepper, it seemed to relieve some of the pressure. It took a couple of weeks before the pain seemed to really go away. And be sure with all the holiday foods to be careful to avoid the foods that would set an attack off before. I had pizza the day after I got out of the hospital and discovered that was a bad thing to do! But it sure tasted good LOL.

Many thanks, everyone. Today is a good day. I'm thinking about weaning myself off the Darvoset, it doesn't seem to do me much good.
ObsidianSunrise, thanks especially for your post. Two months? That's awful! I didn't seem to have attacks, just constant pain, particularly after standing for more than an hour or two. The nurse told me to stick to a lowfat diet for awhile, but I'm not sure how I'll do with all the yummys around to tempt me. That's another reason I'm easing off the Darvoset; I'd like to have a glass of wine tomorrow night.

Aw hon, it will take a while for things to get back to normal. As far as lowfat, you should be okay as long as you don't get carried away. Try a little bit at a time, and see how you react. If it's okay, then try a bit more, etc etc. I can almost guarantee that you won't take as long to heal as I did, because I had to be different. Not only did I have surgery, but it took TWO to get the gall bladder and all the stones out!
Anyhow, don't try to rush things. Your body needs time to heal, and to adjust. As far as the painkillers, you should do what works for you. (Then send the leftovers to me... mauhahah.. no just kidding, I doin't take much for those things.)

...energy to ya hun:hugz:
I had my gall bladder removed 8 years ago. It took about 3 maybe four months before I could eat 'normaly' again (get off the dry toast and such) I probably could have tried earlier, but I was just scared too after dealing with all that pre-surgery pain for so long. Was it don laproscopically (the little holes)? I know my doc told me I would have rotten pain for a few days to a week after because they fill you belly with air so they can get a good look around in there:eek:
I always knew I was a hot air bag, but sheesh!:p
It will get better;) :hugz:

Yep, it was a lapriscopic surgery.
What's worrying me is that the pain is back. Same pain. Same places. Not just where my gallbladder is...erm...was, but in my belly as well.
It's driving me bonkers. I've been out of work for over a month now.

I would get a hold of your surgeon and your doc and discuss this with them since its been going on so long. But still watch what you eat. I know for awhile anythign I ate that had the slightest fat content, made me feel like the gall bladder was still there and having an attack. Now if I get anything with too much fat in it.....lets just say.....it doesn't stick around for too long:imout:
:hugz: Get in touch with you doc.
