Hi,
I have two tall dragon candleholders that I believe are pewter. They are silvery with black in the detailed crevices and are quite heavy and solida. The problem occurs in that wax drips heavilly down them and its very time consuming and sometimes painful to get off the wax and some of it stays really hard. I was thinking of boiling water and sticking htem in but I don't want it to ruin the dark antiquing in the crevices or ruin it in any other way. I was hoping by boiling it it would remove the wax. I'm afraid to candle it off would cause dark carbon spots.

Any ideas?

Boiling has always worked well for me. That and just wiping it off with a rag/paper towel dipped in hot water and/or heating the candleholder a bit then the hot towel. Boiling can get a bit messy in you get the layer of wax floating on the top of the pot of water to get the candleholder back out through... and there is cleaning the pot.

Put them in the freezer, the wax gets real brittle and will come right off, and the metal will shrink makeing it easier to come off.

I think I will try the freezer version first. If I do try boiling I'm going to use an old coffee can if I can find someone to give it to me so I don't have to worry about cleaning it.

Thanks for the suggestions! These are the first candleholders I've had that are to details just to easily take the wax off of.
