Okay, I said last week that this week I'd get you to start doing readings. It may seem a little pre-mature, because we haven't done the minor arcana, or signifier cards, or spreads or anything, but you really don't need all that to get started, right?
So, I'm going to rearrange the partner list a bit... there are 3 people who havent' done a single assignment and I'm just going to assume, until they contact me, that they are out of the class. I'll PM anyone affected and tell them about new partners.
Everyone else, I want you to do AT LEAST one reading (and as many as you want) for your partners per week from now until the end of class. Your partner will evaluate your reading, and PM me the results. These readings will factor in SLIGHTLY on your grades. If you don't do any readings in one week, your partner will return an evaluation form with 0 points, and that will lower your grade.
I expect an evaluation form from everyone by every MONDAY. I don't want to have to ask for them.
Please pay attention to the list of people who hasn't handed in assignments for your partner's name. If they are on that list they will NOT be doing readings, and I don't expect an evaluation from you.
We will start simple, with one card readings. Draw one card for your partner, describe that card to them, then tell them what the card means and how it pertains to them. Remember to go with your intuition first, then follow any symbolism the card uses for deeper explinations.
Here's the evaluation form you will use:
Possible 10 points
/2 followed instructions (describe card, then did the reading)
/1 explained symbolism
/5 correct card definitions (as you understand them)
/2 accuracy of the reading
Total points out of 10:
If, for any reason, you are unable to evaluate your partner, please let me know ASAP so arrangements can be made.
Any questions?
EDIT: Here's an example of what I want your readings to look like.
I've pulled one card for one of my students (if, you think that the reading pertains to you, pm me and I'll let you know if it was you. :))
Deck: Gendron Tarot
Card: 2 of Wands, reversed.
Description: A woman rests in a field of flowers, beside a white sand beach, with waves washing onto the shore. In the background is a large hill/mountain covered with trees, and the sky is hazy and grey. The woman, as I said, is in a field of Irises, which are orange and blue, and she has an Iris tucked behind her left ear as well. The woman is standing so I can only see her profile, the left side of her face. Between her hands, floating like a ball of energy, is the earth, and resting over her left arm are two staves, glowing with a soft light. She wears a very dark colored robe, and it's hard to tell what color it is. Her face seems very calm as she watches the earth between her hands.
Symbolism: Irises typically represent a message, and their colors orange and blue suggest success and ambition (orange) paired with calm patience and wisdom. The fact that the woman has one tucked behind her ear shows that these characteristics are somethign that she is concerned or focused on. The ocean can represent life and fertility, as all life came from the ocean. In this case, because we see the water washing up on the beach I'm going to assume it represents the movement and sometimes turmoil of life. The mountain of trees in the background represents growth in the future.
Card meaning: (reversed) powerlessness, fear of action, feeling out of control, forced to conform.
Card meaning for you: You feel like you're out of your comfort zone, and you're forced to go along with something you don't want to do. You know that it's necessary however, and that's why you're agreeing to it. It has left you afraid of the future, and hesitant to act.
Normally this card speaks of personal power and control over the world around you...this situation has taken this control from you and left you uncomfortable. Just be strong, do what has to be done, and you'll find that control comes to you again, and you'll feel better than ever.
