MPN Establishes the Adopt a Pagan Soldier Program
Columbia, MD - September 24, 2001: During times of war many church organizations set-up a program so that people can send care-packages, prayers, and well wishing to the soldiers serving in the combat theater and in other support positions on foreign soil. In an effort to do something similar, the Military Pagan Network is establishing the "Adopt a Pagan Soldier Program". This program will allow churches, covens, groves, circles, kindreds and even solitary folks of all Neopagan faith groups to offer support to those of their faith that have been sent off to fight.
The program will be done in two phases. The first phase is to connect the various soldier's wishing to be adopted with the groups that wish to adopt them. During this phase only a name and photo will be provided to the adopting group so that they can include the individual(s) in their prayers and rituals. The Military Pagan Network has created an online form for groups and individuals wishing to adopt a soldier, this form and the instructions for the adoptee's are on our website.
The second phase will begin when the military establishes it's postal program to our deployed troops. We will then attempt to get the addresses of all our adoptee's and provide them to the adopting groups so that, if they wish they can send care packages. We will also include a list of items to NOT send to the troops as we don't wish to break any regulations or agreements with our allies. As part of phase two we will ask the family or solider providing the address if they wish to receive a special care package from The Blessed Bee, an online Pagan store. If they agree with will provide The Blessed Bee with the address so that the care package can be sent out. We strongly encourage both groups and families to participate in this program. We feel that moral programs such as this will help our troops and remind them that they are remembered and cared for by the American people. Founded in 1992,incorporated in 1997 the Military Pagan Network Inc. acted as a store and group information resource for Neopagans in the military. The corporation now provides material regarding various Neopagan religions to the Chaplaincy, as well as fulfilling its original goal of providing contacts near military bases around the world. In 1997 the corporation expanded its services to include assisting military members with the proper handling of harassment and discrimination. In 1999 the IRS awarded the Military Pagan Network, Inc. tax-exempt status in accordance with Internal Revenue Code 501(c)3.
