View Full Version : Just sounding for interest in a Qabala class

Ok haveing gone through the list of classes and the list of threads I con't see any about the Qabala. Now I know it isn't generaly welcomed by the regular witchcraft frat but I really do think it's a very valid part of spirituality as a whole. Since MW is so cosmapolitan these days I can't understand why this whole area hasn't been included. Now I'm really only still learning myself so I don't know that I could teach the subject on my own but I'd be willing to run a few classes if anyone else was interested. I'm hoping if there is enough interest raised I can get a few others to help me out with this, maybe they have more knowledge than I do on the subject. If you are interested in any way please get back to me here and or pm me. I've never been a teacher so I'm not sure at this stage how I would go about structuring the leasons anyone with an idea on this please pm me.I'm thinking of covering it step by step and possibly going into how it relates to other things like Tarot.

Well I'm hoping this gets a bit of interest since to me there seams to be a huge gap here regarding this subject. Please vote in my poll

I would be interested hwoever it all depends when you plan on doing this class as to whether or not I will be able to join right away. I knwo of others who may enjoy a class like that was well. Defintly something to give thought to.

I'm just sound for interest at this stage. I'm not sure how to go about it all it's so huge :). I will keep you posted on it and yes please anoy others you can drum up to join in bring them along. I'm thinking of probably doing it on a sphier by sphier discusion kind of like I've done with the majors in Tarot. I'll start it off give you all my take on the sphier the rest of you take it from there and give your take on it. Discution really is the only way I can see of learning anything so vast as this.

Thanks for the input lets hope we get some intrest or we could end up just PMing back and forth on the subject LOL. I guess it's one way. but not my idea of the best way.

I'm always interested in learning new things.
I've heard that the Qabalah is a really complicated belief system and even though I've done some research on it, I didn't really get what it was about. Other than it being some sort of Mystical Jewish belief system or something.

Anyhoo, yes, I'd be interested in learning about it.

Cool more people lineing up to have their heads mashed :) Yes it's complicated, yes it's going to be really hard to work out how to teach but it's a real buzz when you finaly begin to understand it. It is considered Eastern but in trouth it has a foot in everything. The regular way we have come to understand recognise it is in the Tree of Life which is generaly Eastern. The fact is it has links to everythin, Egyptian, Western magic even that Pentagram you may or may not own. No more info now I'll get back to all of you once I work out how I'm going to work this
LOL
Oh no what have I let myself in for. Me and my big mouth

Awwhh but as I search more and deeper, I am finding that there are 2 types of Qabala, the old, Jewish based philosophies that are very deep...and,
Hermetic (magickal) Qabalah, which is based on magickal workings with the energies (no matter what you personally feel those energies are) that are everywhere.

So I am assuming this would be a course on Hermetic Qabalah?

Thats what I have deciphered so far from reading and searching.....so I am either off base, getting the gist of it or totally confused!! http://mysticwicks.com/images/smilies2/flyer.gif

I agree! Because it's such a huge topic, I don't think I'd really be able to get into it unless it was like a summer course. I think you'd get a lot more students that way too. I would really like to learn more about the Qabalah, especially when dealing with the tarot.

You are spot on it is about every thing so much more than just the Jewish or Hermatic work but you would never know unless you really looked into it. As a magical workings The Golden Dawn and Crowley kind of got the market roling. I can't say I've done that much work with it hermaticaly since I've only just got to grips with it really. Now that I've got a better idea of it though I can honestly say I probably could use it hermeticaly. I'll have to start the course with the very basics and work through so I'll cover a bit of historical ground in that and why I think it needs to be studied. Thanks for looking it up and looking in to it

I wont be starting for a while
There are a few more books I need to get and everyone who wants to join will need to get at least one book to start with so that we all have a comman ground. I'm going to recomend The Witches Qabala by Ellen Cannon Reed as it is the simplest work of it's type I've found

I don't have that book and I'm not going to be working with the magic side of things just yet I'm mainly going to be exploring the tree and how it conects to everything else to begin with. I will take I look at this book though and see if I think I can work with it. I'm just recomending the Ellen Cannon Reed one because it really helped me get to grips with it all and if we all have a similar referance book then we will all know what we are working with if I say look at the diagram on pg,,,,,

:) LOl why have you not ticked helping to teach?
Am I to do this all on my own? Oh you horrible people :)
Ok looks like I have raised a bit of interest so I'm going to contact Morr about running a class, Don't worry it wont be just yet but I guess it's a case of getting myself prepared. I will be spending a bit of time typeing all the stuff up anyway so don't hold your breath if you are waiting. Pm me with dates when you could look at starting would you all please so that I can structure this properly :). Glad to see so many have expressed an interest already and there will be room for more to come along before we begin. Oh also if you could all let me know just how much you already know about the Qabala that way it might not be really necasery for everyone to start right at the bigining if they would rather not join in untill later on when we get onto more indepth stuff.

See you guys soon

I heard that the book you're recommending is really good. "Magic of Qablah"( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0738700029/qid=1108766292/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/102-5923266-7057741?v=glance&s=books)is actually more of an intro than a book about Qabalistic magick. Her approach seems really hands on with a lot of visualization so that the reader is about to really get to know the tree of life. I got it for Xmas, but really haven't started it.

ok all who have posted here have been pmed so I can find out when we can get started on this. I've contacted Morr about starting a class and I just have to get back to her once I know when we can begin. There seams to have been a good few votes that haven't posted here so for those of you who have expressed and interest if you can pm me with suitable start times I'd be greatfull. I've worked out a structure for this whole thing and I'm going to get on with the start of the work now so that when we begin I'll have plenty for you all to get your teath in to :D. Just wanted to keep you all updated now I'm just waiting to hear from you guys.

I'd be interested in learning...especially with it's relationship to tarot. However, before signing up, I'd really have to know what would be involved in the class... what kind of time restraints, assignments, and whatnot. I'd have to balance it with my tarot class somehow, and want to make sure I can before committing myself.
