I recently acquired a small solid brass bowl. New thurible... yay! Most of it has polished up nicely. But the edge has a leaf pattern. Anyone have any good suggestions on how to polish indents and carvings and stuff? I don't expect the bright shiny of the bowl, but I'd like to get the worst out of the edges.

I just use metal polish and a soft brush. When I have all the polish rubbed into the pattern, I rinse it with running water a dash of dish soap and use the soft brush to get all the polish out of those patterns. Buff dry with a soft fluffy towel and bingo, nice, shiny brass!! :)

Ketchup works well on brass as well. Since it's thin it gets into crevices easily and washes off a little easier too...:flowers:

...you could also try makeup applicators and/or q-tips. In the automobile section of either Walmart or K-mart you should also be able to a little rubber pick (used to remove car wax from hard to get spaces).

Ketchup or vineagar.Wipe off with something rough. Then get something soft and rub as hard as you can.

I didn't know you could use ketchup for brass polishing!
Why ketchup, and not, say, tomato sauce? Is it the vinegar in the ketchup, or the citric acid that takes the tarnish off?
Who thought one day..."hmmm, I need to polish my brass, and all I have is this darned bottle of ketchup"??

its the acid.Im a silversmith so we use strong sulphuric acid to clean the metals, but anything acidic will do really.
