Do you think that spells are harnessing external forces for good, or do you think they are they simply tricks for the mind? I am forming my own opinion on this but would like to hear others views. Do you really believe that you are using the energies in the world around you or self-hypnotising to convince your self something is true?

I believe with training and practice, we have the power within ourselves to call on the forces of nature and the elements, however the very skeptical side of me is not sure. I would just like to hear others views.

thanks, kitty

I see it as both. I believe we are harnessing the energies around us to bring about change, and feeding it into the situation. Tools act as a focus for our minds to feed this energy and I don't really see this as "tricking" the mind, it is focusing and affirming your desire for a certain outcome.

Focusing the mind and changing your thought patterns to bring about change through your own actions (for example, a job spell isn't going to work if you 1. don't take action to find a job, and 2. don't believe you can get a job) is all a part of spellwork.

I hope that made sense! I'm having a strange day ;)

Having performed at least a couple successful spells I can assure you they aren't tricks of the mind.

Proof that we affect our environment? Walk through the mall with a very angry don't mess me attitude, or project an angry attitude when someone is being rude to you, and see how fast people will back down or get out of the way. Wake up to your day feeling excited and good about it and see how much better the day will go for you. Decide you can accomplish something hard and find yourself having accomplished it.

The only "mind tricks" there are convincing your mind that what you want is what you will have.

about Magick is that it is not at all about "Hocus Pocus"
or anything like that...it involves a use of Natural abilities that all humans are born with... it is a way of life that takes alot of wisdom and discernment....It should not be aproached in anything less than a pre thought out, frame of mind...it need not neccesarily be "solemn" in fact it can be fun.. but I feel, it should not be taken as "Fun" or "Cool" because we are deling with energy and forces in other realms, and these forces obey the laws, (cosmic law) Karma pays her bills, so for those who would go by the liberal wiccan "Do what thou will" reede....take a look at the OLDE version.... we reap what we sow...

Magick is serious ...it is fun, it uses a universal code, "Symbols" which our higher self has a reguard for.......

I dont think it should be called magic, it is a very natural element of our daily life.... but i do feel it requires a degree of Morality and Good Judgement........ok , im done LOL that is my opinion anyways...........:p Gee Willow.... you burning the mignight oil too??
