Do you have any experiences with healing animals or pets that you'd like to share?
Two of my cats seem to love it, especially on the neck, at least for ten minutes or so. At a certain point it's clearly too much for them and they will make that known by crying or becoming restless. The trick seems to be sending for a few minutes and then taking a break before sending again. That way you keep them relaxed and happy without overwhelming them. My other cat doesn't seem to like it very much.
Just today I was lying on my bed with my cat Missi and she was really enjoying it. When I stopped, she got up from where she was and lay against my legs so she could get more. :)

In 2003, just before Christmas one of my Love Puppies was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma (cancer of the lymph system). I had a male and female Scottie dog, and the female, Tazlina was the one sick. She was only 6 years old and the vet said she had between 2-4 months to live. Lymphoma is a very fast and deadly cancer, chemo might buy her a few more months, but the nearest place to get the chemo was a 6 hour drive one way and was just out of reach for us. I was devistated, these dogs are like my kids. I had been giving them Reiki since I got my first attunement, but I started doing several daily sessions with her. I gave her the Prednisone her vet recomended but also went to the herbalist and asked her advice on suppliments. Over the course of her illness I used several different suppliments.
Taz did very well, her glans were slightly swollen at times, but over all she was in pretty good shape and people couldn't believe she was terminaly ill. She lasted just 2 weeks short of a year and I credit Reiki for the extra time. Her vet was amazed and called her the miracle dog and uses her story to give other clients with this diagnosis hope. I miss my sweet girl, she went to the Rainbow Bridge just two weeks before this past Christmas.
Taz was a little healer dog. She could tell where a person was hurt and wanted to lay on the spot. She could be quite the pest when I was working on a client. Shortly after I received my 3rd Reiki attunement I had a dream that my Reiki guides came to me. I was talking to the one who seemed to be the main guide in the dream when in bounds Tazlina, yapping and pulling at the guides robes. The guide I was speaking with started telling me that she was a healer dog and that I should attune her which I did the next day.
One thing that has worked for me is to use one hand to give the animal Reiki and ground the other onto myself. It seems to let the animal take the Reiki longer.

When my cat, Moonbeam, was real sick with a kidney infection, I could sit with her and give her Reiki for 10 minutes or more... now, that she's better - well at least does not have a fever and such, she will barely take a minute of it... She gets real restless and gets up and walks away... lol I might try your grounding suggestion and try just one hand and see how that goes. Oh, and I do know the Reiki I gave her while she was really sick did help, it helped to finally get rid of her fever... she had been running a fever for well over a week and it didn't show any signs of going away... until I started using Reiki on her... then she started turning the corner so to speak... =)

My cat Ally had fallen off my dresser this summer. She tore all the ligaments in her knee (cruciate ligament), similar to an ACL tear in humans. I was told she would never walk again, much less run or jump without surgery. Surgery of course was nearly $3000, so I was not going to be able to do that.
So I took her home and gave her Reiki every day for a week, for at least 15 minutes, while keeping her still so she could heal. She has made an amazing recovery. She grew scar tissue in her knee to allow her to move around. She can't jump as high as she used to, but the things is she still *can*. I still give her some every few weeks to keep a eye on things.
I found that during the healings, she absorbed the energy at a very high rate, faster than humans do/did. She also wouldn't take mre than 15 minutes or so. She would turn away or grab my hand with her paws when she was "done." She actually got to the point where she would seek me out when she was having pain to get some help.
Also I was very focussed while giving her Reiki. I didn't get a lot of chatter from my Guides like I normally do. They occasionally had comments for me, but as I told them that was going to be the only chace Ally had to heal, so please give me as much help as they could.
Now she's getting in trouble just as much as she did before she fell. Yesterday she fished my socks down from the shower rail, where they were drying, and dragged them off to various parts of the house. She "killed" my knee socks and brought them to me as a present. (Good kitty . . . )

I'm not sure if what I do is truly Reiki, but three times now I've been able to ease the pain of my dying kitties. Well, two were mine and one was a friend's. I wasn't able to save them, Goddess I which I could have because I miss them so much still. But I was able to ease their breathing and relax their muscles through just touching them in certain areas. For one of them that had fallen into a seizure like state and was convulsing I was able to stop the convulsions. Poor thing, she had leukemia and had lived 6 years longer than the vets had predicted.
Is this something like Reiki? And if so, can I learn to focus it so I can use it on my boyfriend (he has back problems) and friend who has headaches?

It's quite possible. After all Reiki is a particular style of healing using the natural energies that surround us.
The best way to practice is to what you've been doing. You can also practice on yourself if you get a small wound or headache, that sort of thing.

I'm a vet assitant at a pet hospital, and sometimes, if I have time, I do try some energy techniques. Most often I find my self using metaphysical techniques when we have a fractious pet, meaning they are realy scared and spazzing out. I try to ground and center, and take some deep breaths, as I would to ground and center myself, and kinda take the pet with me on the grounding as I'm restraining an animal for some procedure. Sometimes it works. I've even had the vet say things like, " I thought this one was going to give us more of a fight, I'm surprized how calm she is now." I hope to get more practice at it, I've only been working full time for 2 months now.

We used to go to a pagan shop that used to be in the area alot. The shop owner also lived in the shop and had several cats. One of her kitties got into some water with bleach in it and was very ill. We spooned a baking soda and peroxide mixture into the cat's mouth to induce vomitting and then I administered Reiki. Within an hour the cat was back up, getting into trouble. Obviously the cat hadn't used up all nine of her lives yet.

I was taught Massage by Karmu, the Holy One in Cambridge, Mass back in 1970. I've noticed that when I pet critters, that I often shift over into Massage/Healing mode. When using massage on critters, remember that they are a lot smaller than we are. You don't want to use pressure, like you would on an adult human. Dogs will click their teeth at your hand, when you goof that way. It's not that they don't want a treatment, it's just that a Swedish Massage level of pressure, really is like doing Deep Tissue on them.
The level of pressure you use in Lymphatic Massage, seems to be just about right for cats & dogs.... very light.. just tracing the lattice of the acupuncture meridians, and they're fine with that. You can even do some Deep Tissue using one finger, if you ease off the pressure you normally use, to match their body size, and muscular tension, and go very slowly. Generally, they won't let you do any Reflexology. Their feet & the muscles in them are very tiny, and I think it just gets far too intense for them real quick.
Dogs often enjoy Myofascial Skin Rolling. I've tried it on cats, but they look at me like I was nutz. Cat : "My skin is already loose... stupid human!"
