View Full Version : Giving yourself a Massage Treatment

It happens that you may need a massage, and there's nobody around who can do it. This is especially vexing for healers, especially Massage Therapists. So I developed this routine, and it is fairly effective. It's not perfect, because you do have to use some of the muscles that you are trying to relax. However, if you take no more than 25 minutes to do the routine, and then spend perhaps another five or so minutes just lying on your back, it all works out quite well...

Thanks!
It's nice to be totally relaxed for a massage... but I guess, if you've only got yourself, you've got to make some allowances!

This is great - thanks for posting this. My partner and I give each other massages but sometimes one of us isn't in the mood so it doesn't always work out. i'm going to try your technique to see if I can incorporate massage into my daily routine. You said you listen to relaxing music... do you mean rainforest noises or dolphins? What would you recommend as relaxing music?

For music I like to use my New Age composition, To Voyage Beyond Space & Time. Note that it is 24megs for 26 minutes of music. You may download it, and even burn a copy for yourself on a CD, if you really like it, but I do reserve my Copyright, and expect a credit for my work.

Thank you! I will download a copy, purely for my own personal use, when I have figured out how to burn CDs on our new computer. Thanks again.

Very nice! I should take some time and give myself a massage. Every now and then, I give myself a hand massage. I either massage sesame oil or some olive oil with lavender essential oil into my hands. Hand massages feel so good. In addition, they leave your hands so soft.

Hand massages are the main thing that help get rid of my tendinitis pain!

I've been told I give good massages, but I don't often give myself body massages. I'd rather ask a sexy young man to do that for me :3

Haha, I was just about to mention Davies as well as Travell and Simmons books on Trigger Point Therapy. I'm studying all three books for my dimpola currently, and Davies books is brilliant for 'everyday people' (who don't know much about muscloskeletal anatomy or physiology, or medical jargon) to learn how to treat muscle pain and reffered pain really effectively. The way he writes is wonderful too.
I don't think TP's are being treated as something 'real' by anyone but bodyworkers atm (here in Australia)... most doctors still just inject, or gives drugs to treat the pain.. if you're lucky you get refered to a remediall massage threapist, or perhaps a physio, but not many doctors believe massage to be a 'real' treatment yet.
Oh well, its a growing idustry and it's is slowly being regognised more and more by other healthcare professionals.

The Davies book is excellent...for most folks who just want to get rid of pain.....
and physicians are coming around at least in the U.S. actually physical therapists are probably take over the manual treatment..in Oz it will probably be physiotherapists who do it....
the travell books are 180 and most folks would need a medical dictionary to get through them.....there are a couple of other books out there that are worthwile but mostly they are just somewhere between davies and travell...
by the way Massage person from Oz I have a handout an associate of mine put together that I give to clients....for self massage of trigger points..has all the muscles listed and the page number to find the self massage in davies for the muscle...
works well they come in i find the key trigger points they go home and work them themsevles come back and tell me i'm brilliant..when they did most of the work....
