A question... and perhaps this is true with many people.

I live in an area where many of those trees are NOT Found. Period, they do not grow here. About 5 of them do, but thats besides the point.

However there are trees here which call to me every time I see and feel them, but are not listed in the list of traditional trees.

In particular I am talking about the Arbutus tree. It has a very limited range, and only grows within a mile from the ocean to limit its distrabution even more. However, it is beautiful, and it seems to have great energy.

My question... to someone who might be able to answer me. Since all of nature is part of the mother, I do not belive there should be any limitations as to what natural materials one might use in rituals, etc... so can anyone tell me how I might find the significance of other trees/herbs/bushes/etc. which are not commonly found or talked about? All I can think of would be personal meditation with it.

Peace...

Do you mind me asking what part of BC you live in? There's a great book on BC trees & I can't remember the name off hand.

The book I'm thinking of was put out by the Ministry of Forestry. I just checked & they don't have that book anymore. I can't get a hold of my copy yet. It's mostly on the trees of BC - not a lot on the magical side but it touches on the folklore aspects a bit. Another great book is Plants of Coastal British Columbia by Pojar & Mackinnon. It has trees & plants native to this area. It has some folklore in it as well.

I'm curious what other trees you have nearby? The Arbutus is a beautiful tree. I love the way the bark looks as it peels away from the trunk. The flowers are so beautiful! Sometimes, I gather the berries to use in my Yuletide decorations.

Oh! Welcome to Mysticwicks!
