How do you do some of the numerology stuff with tarot cards?
Like your birth year card... Oct 10 1972
is it 10+10+1972=1992=21=3
or is it 1+0+1+0+1+9+7+2=21=3
I know mine comes out the same but some people will get two different numbers if they add differently.

Ok, the one i have shows the personality number and the life number. This is how you do it, using examples.

Example for a person born on May 15, 1971

Add month and date; then add the year : 5 + 15 = 20, 20 + 1971 = 1991
Add the resulting individual digits : 1 + 9 = 10; 10 + 9 = 19; 19 + 1 = 20

The personality number is 20 - which is the card, judgement.

Adding the 2 + 0 = 2, now gives the life number - which would be the High Priestess.

If the resulting number is a single digit, then the person has the same personality and life number.

So as my Birthday is 12th March 1973 this would be

12+3=15+1973=1988
1+9=10+8=18+8=26 (so do I then add these 2 together to make both the personality & the life number?) :hrmm:

2+6=8 Justice!!!!

I will check this again later, i don't have the book with me right now. It might be better looking on the internet for life and personality numbers using tarot.

Umm....Dorothy Morrison's book....um....tarot something.....can't remember right now, explains how to do a lot of numerology stuff with tarot, I would suggest looking for that book. I personally don't have any experience with that use of the tarot.

I thought I would post this here, so as not to break the assignment thread.
Just finished doing this weeks homework about your fave & least fave cards in the minor arcana (will post later today, as gotta pick kids up in 10 mins) and as I have a hard time remembering all the symbolism & what each card is suppose to represent, it got me to thinking, does it matter when trying to just use your intuition? What do other newbies (& the experienced) think on this subject? I've gone through all the minor arcana and picked out cards that I felt something about without looking @ the LWB. So I've no idea if I'm on the right track with my thoughts or not, but so many people have told me to just throw out the LWB, so which method is best, if any if you have a bad memory like me!!!! :nyah:

Ok, this is what I do, obviously other people will have found other options easier for them, but this is what worked for me.
I threw out my LWB as soon as i get my decks. I don't use them, they always deter my own interpretations of the cards.
I first used my intuition, just picked out keywords... When i was a little more familiar with how i interpretaed the cards, i then looked up traditional meanings and fit them with how i personally felt. Then i started learning about the suits, symbolism etc....

This is what worked for me :)

As I am doing more and more readings with the cards, I find I am relying less and less on the LWB. Some cards though I still can't get quite a handle on yet!! Pages confuse me, the eight of wands I don't get. Many cards I get a very different vibe than what the LWB says, so I go with my intuition.

When I began studying I memorized the book meanings of the cards. I used to give myself pop-quizzes, similar to Amethyst's exercise 2, so that I'd drill the meanings into my head. I'm an Air person, I can't help it. :D

However, I think it stunted my growth a bit. I was able to give readings because I could almost instantly recall what the card meaning was. Were they good readings? Oh, heck no! LOL I'm sure they were awful. There was no insight or intuition involved at all.

One thing I wish I had done was journal. I kept track of all the readings I did for myself and others (I still try to do this) but not of my feelings for individual cards.

I recommend to newbies to take a combination approach. I would suggest starting out with a real tarot book, not just your LWB. Then begin journaling by writing down things about the cards and then referring back to the book later to see how you're matching up. Keep track of all the readings you do. Over time you will begin to notice your thoughts on each card expanding.

It's not necessary to know ALL the symbols in a card, but as you learn (and learning tarot is a several lifetime long process IMO) you will notice how your thoughts change and you'll get more layers of meaning from one card than you ever thought possible. :)

I am using a journal now for this class. I put my assignments in it, my daily drawings and any other readings I do (I have done some practice Celtic Crosses, and 12 month spreads). I like looking back to see what I have done. It has helped me alot.
