Yeah, I remember reading some of those verses a while back and
wondering why Jesus was portrayed as having long hair.

Oh that? Because that is King James.. not Jesus.

If "God" is so bored that he wishes to concern himself with my apparel, hairstyle, and generally how I look...

He needs to get a life.

Blessings,

Well, the Biblical God is a very interesting fellow.

Meh. Knowing the OT God vs. the NT God as I do, this article is enmeshing them like the Protestants do and it irks me no end.

The "jealous" God of the OT of course cared about your attire, because he was involved in telling you how to do EVERYTHING. He assumed you were an idiot, and needed guidance in every minutae.

Whereas the God of the NT was a little less involved in the brushing of teeth and more involved in your relationships, your community and your place in society. A broader-based instruction was given, through Paul and Jesus, in the NT. The NT God stresses a sort of carelessness about "earthly" things (like what you're wearing) and emphasizes more of a "personal relationship" with your spirituality.

so...anyway...lol.

Its good to remember that the Bible was written by men and stories put together..so watever is in there is supervised by whoever's in charge or deems particular attire offensive. :D

OT and NT? wat does that mean?

It's was interesting that Paul said long hair was to a man's shame.
What about the Nazerites of the OT? They made a vow of dedication
and wouldn't allow a razor to touch their hair. When the period of the
vow ends, they would shave their heads and offer it to god.
Sampson, the hero from the story of Sampson and Delilah, was a
Nazerite. I guess it was to Sampson's shame that he had long hair.
Couldn't have been much of a shame if it was the source of his
great strength. Yeah, yeah I know, god was the true source of
his strength. The long hair must have been the method because when
he lost his hair, he lost his strength.

God didn't make these laws because he was bored or materialistic. There are reasons for many things, if you study deep enough. Jewish men often had short hair for two reasons.
1) hygeine. It was difficult to keep long hair kept and clean. Many of the 613 laws given to the Jews in the Old Testament effected health & hygeine.
2) God commanded men to cover their head. You see Jewish men wearing kippot (or as you may call them yalmulkes or beanies) It is VERY hard to keep a kippah on full time with long hair. Jewish men often cut their hair, simply because it made it easier to keep their coverings on.
Jewish men covered their heads because...
1)humility
2)to set them apart
3)and I have also read for God to protect them from the desert sun

Fast forward to Corinthians. This is simply a letter from Paul to the church of Corinth. Paul is speaking to gentiles. Not the Jews or any of the Jewish sects (they are irrelevent to this letter), but to the gentiles of Corinth. He is addressing issues that were happening in that day and time. It was natural for women to have long hair at the time. The only women who had short hair were the prostitutes. They were having a problem with dirty, promiscuous women. So.... Paul tells the women of Corinth to keep their hair long. He does NOT want them mistaken for a kind of women that they are not. He tells the men to hair short hair, he does not want them to be feminine or lose their role in society. He tells the women to cover their head. Hair was actually sexual back then- a turn on. He wanted the women to be modest. It wasn't uncommon for men to force themselves on women if they saw "something they liked" either. It is no secret regarding the "free love" attitude in many areas of the Roman Empire at this time. Paul is not saying all men and women, of every time are shameful. He was simply addressing a problem in that culture at that particular time. What it came down to was promoting modesty among the church members for their hygeine, safety, & reputation.

?!?
Did he wear birkenstock's? Maybe a hoodie from the gap?
I think people put entirely too much emphasis on stories written/re-written over 500 years ago. I like history and all, but what's done is done.
