Initiations and Sabbats

What are your thoughts, feelings and beliefs on having Initiations during a holy Sabbat? I wonder if the emphasis on the Sabbat isn't diminished in someway.

I think it's a great idea to do an initiation on a Sabbat. Especially one where in some places it's also an Esbat (this Samhain!). I don't think it diminishes the celebration at all - you get to celebrate the season AND your initiation!

I believe it isn't all that unusual for initiations to take place during sabbats, I think Imbolc is a rather popular choice... But I guess Samhain would be great too. :)

Well, as someone who has had a birthday right between X-Mas and New Years, I can say that it's pretty rare for people to both celebrate a holiday (Sabbat) fully AND not detract in any way from the importance of other events. One or the other seems to always suffer.

In theory, it's not a bad idea. Especially if the initiation is into a tradition that ties in well with the energies of the Sabbat.

Realistically though, it's highly likely that someone is going to feel as though one or the other was given less energy and effort than it deserved. Just my 2 cents.

I think it not only doesn't detract from the main rite, but adds to it... kinda like getting a double feature for the price of one... & I think it enhances the initiation experience, as well...

My group has done it both ways, and both ways work just fine. However: If you have open circles, where anybody can come, dedications and initiations should be done at a separate, closed circle. These experiences are too personal to be shared with strangers.

I think it's awesome to do your initiation on a Sabbath, this will also help you to remember that day. Ex : I will be initiated on Samhain because that is the closet Sabbath to a year and when I think about Samhain I can think about the day that I got initiated.

Why would it be diminished?? I think it adds to the energy.

I was initiated one year ago on samhain, so i just had my first anniversary!:shift: :thumbsup:
