Have you seen the movie White Noise? We just watched it last night and its pretty good.

Ofcourse TAPS ( http://www.the-atlantic-paranormal-society.com/index.html (http://www.the-atlantic-paranormal-society.com/index.html) ) uses EVP's but do you do it for your own interest?

Electronic voice phenomenon or EVP for short is voices and other utterances that appear on audiotape and digital media without the person/s being aware of it at the time the recording was taking place. In most examples of EVP, the voice or voices only speak a few words and some of the voices can be very distinct and yet others hardly coherent at all.

Check out the American Association of Electronic Voice Phenomena web site.

I've used that method a few times with some interesting results...always hard to tell exactly what is going on with it though

My husband and I hear voices sometimes and wonder if getting a recorder can help us make them out more. Thought it'd be a nice thing to have when we go to New Orleans next month too....along with our camera we've caughts spirits on too.

Normanlly where you can hear voices they do come out Ok-ish on tape. That is what started me onto it. I often stayed in a very haunted farm house (my bedroom especially had freaky things galore going on there) Me and my friend decided to record in the room just to see what would happen

i tried it once... I swear i heard a voice, but i couldn't make it out on tape... nobody else heard it though... they heard that there was something, but they didn't think it was a voice... i suppose i'll try again... this house is too new for there to be ghosts, my mom says, but i think there could still be some spirits from somewhere... to much weird stuff happens here for there not to be.... oh well...

I must admit that White Noise has got me thinking about experimenting with EVP. I liked the movie 5/5 stars to about the midway point, then thought it was horrible afterwards, with the demons and stuff. I've stared into a tv screen before once, trying to talk to something through it (not channel it through though - I didn't know how) and the movie made me think of just how dangerous this could be. I'll be cautious with anything I try (if ever) in the future - that's for sure.

Yes, it's just a movie, and one that focuses far more on the negative than positive, but I still hear 'caution' embedded in my subconscious everytime I think of EVP now. But if used carefully, and for a well intended purpose - like attempting to reach deceased family members, perhaps it could be something good. I don't know anything for sure of course, because I've never really heard much about it before seeing the film.

I always think its wise to have caution about things you don't know about. Spirit should come with a handle with care sticker

I thought White Noise was a fabulous movie. I must agree with Aquarian Moon though, that the end with the demons was a little bit of a let down. I've wanted to pick up a recorder and see what I can find (hear?!) but I've heard so many negative things that I'm scared to try it! I don't want to have any spirits wanting to kick my @$$, lol. Seriously, though, it is something that is very interesting to me but I'm not sure where to start or if I really should.

Are you sure about that one? :jawdrop:
As far as the whole EVP thing... I don't know. It seems like it's more trouble then it's worth. I personally don't good looking for spirits however.

No. A big fat NO!

Frankly, for some reason it scares the living bejeezus out of me. I spent the whole night wide awake and completely freaked once after watching Ghost Hunters and listening to a particularly chilling EVP of a ghost saying, "I am not dead." You couldn't drag me kicking and screaming to the movie White Noise.

My fear is completely illogical, because I'm not afraid of ghosts (I've seen them) and I don't even believe they're actual entities so much as "energy" signatures left by people with a particular attachment to a person or place. So, why be afraid of EVPs? Beats me! :whatgives

Yes the end of the movie was just a little too far fetched for me. We rented the movie from Netflix and theres a section on it with this group that uses it soley to contact deceased loved ones. And they were saying its all safe, just if anything seems like its being mean ignore it. To me it seems just like a ouija board, it isn't harmful unless you let it.

I'd love to try EVP, but I need to get a recorder first. The main library here is supposed to be haunted. There have been a lot of reliable reports over the years of strange happenings there, so I think it'd be a good place to give it a shot.

I just watched the movie as well- we rented it. I thought it was really cool ans spooky up till the part where it goes demon etc and the ending was a let down. Even so, I spooked me out of wanting to try EVP, though I would like to maybe...some day.

I haven't seen the movie, but EVP intrigues me. I just ordered a digital recorder that I can link to my PC, where I have some audio editing software that will come in handy for amplifying, slowing, and 'cleaning up'.

I plan on joining AAEVP as soon as I have another $30 to spare LOL

But visit their FAQs page, it has a PLETHORA of very useful information if you're at all interested.

My mother and I have been wanting to experiment with this for a good while now. We'll be visiting a few local cemeteries after the recorder arrives (hopefully within a week), to practice and see what we can get. We'd really like to get to Gettysburg, and other in-state 'haunted' spots around Samhain and give it a go!

SoulHealer I believe it was...I'd like to stick a big fat 'proceed with caution' sticker on all things pertaining to communicating with the dead myself!

To reiterate a response of mine from a seance` thread-

FIRST....STOP!!!!!
Dealing with the dead is a risky business. Do not enter foolishly or ignorantly.

#1- do NOT summon someone who hasn't been dead long enough to KNOW they are dead, and has not had time to make the change and accept it. (we had that problem here before lol)

#2- Think about it. If you decide you can and still want to...Think again....do this a butt-load of times.

#3- know EXACTLY what you are doing. What you are putting on the line, what you are dealing with, what you hope to gain, what you want to ask/talk about SPECIFICALLY..make sure you word anything you wish to say meticulously, as not to be misinterpretted (that can go badly).

#4- KNOW HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF. Firstly, do not call on anyone you didn't know very well PERSONALLY in life. This is your first try, you dont' just thrust yourself in, you will regret it. Know how to use psychic blocks, a protective talisman, a protection spell or chant, state you will not allow negative energies access to you..only the positive, and only the ones you wish to let in, use protective crystals, etc etc. Do NOT let any entity you do NOT know access you AT ALL. Am I freaking you out yet? Good. This is not a light matter, nor is it just for fun. It is to be taken heavily, carefully, seriously...and to be dealt with with the utmost respect.

#5- Never lose concentration, focus, or take your attention away from your intent..even for a millisecond, it only takes that long for things to go wrong.

#6- LISTEN. And I don't mean with your ears, I mean in your mind, with your energy, your subconcious....you have to get into the meditative state of mind pretty much.

#7- pay attention to everything, sensations, feelings, the slightest change in temperature and atmosphere, don't dwell on it..but notice it, and process it. If at any time you feel negative vibes for any reason..it's time to up your protection..or end it.

#8- When you're done...dont' just stand up and leave...you have to close what you've opened. Know how to end it correctly. Write up a little closing spell, and use it after you state aloud that the time for it is now over. Know how to put a block up, shut down the energies and pull yourself out of it properly...make sure you bring nothing with you.

The easiest time is Samhain, but remember, that is also when it's easiest for them as well....all of them.
Make sure you use the name of who you summon, and make it known they are the ONLY one you summon, welcome, and will allow.
If any negative energies gain access...do not buckle or give in to them. Do not get scared..get strong and utilize your will to push them and block them out, on no uncertain terms.

I'm not trying to push you away from this, or to terrify you in any way...but with all good comes bad..and you must know how to do something like this the proper way. It is no game, and you must have the utmost respect for it and all of it's facets and possibilities.

Good luck and blessings,
Mau
