I saw it last night, it was fabulous! I went out onto my deck about 10pm to bring in the dog, and the moon was SO bright, my entire 1/2 acre yard was virtually glowing! I could also see the stars quite clearly, including 3 extremely bright ones that had to be planets. I'm assuming they were Venus and Jupiter, but what was the third? Anyone know?
The moon looked 99% full (2 days early!) and had a gorgeous ring around it, like a thick halo. Que bella luna! It was wonderful to stand there and bask in the moonlight, I could see every feature on her pretty face. I had to do a mental forehead smack that I wasn't prepared to observe the Esbat last night, because it would have been lovely to do outdoors, not too cold, gorgeously visible moon... sigh. Tonight is another story! As the ring around the moon portends, we in NC are bracing for a huge winter storm. Tonight the moon is hidden behind snow clouds, and we're anticipating 24-48 hours of snow and/or ice. Personally I'm wishing for snow, I don't want the power outages that ice storms can bring!

This full moon period is also special in that the moon is at perigee this period. Basically it is at it's closet point to the Earth and coinsides with a full moon period which occurs once maybe twice if lucky in a calendar year.

Found the answer to my planetary question on msnbc.com - Mars appears to the left of the moon tonight. ;o)
