DEPRESSION: creative ideas to get rid of it

alrite my best friends lil sis is a freshman in highschool and she's having troble adjusting to the whole HS setting, and on top of it the one guy she got enough guts to open up to and tell him that she liked him, rejected her in the worst way possible, "i think we're better friends", so now she thinks shes destined to live a lonely life and that no other guy will ever like her, which is sad bc shes beautiful! so i've decided to put together a little ANIT-DEPRESSION PACKET or HAPPY PACKET...well if anyone else has any other creative names feel free to pitch in, that will have like some fun CD's and like lists of reasons not to be depressed, shes a Christian, like me, so i'm going to put some bilbe verses in there about how God loves her and just some stuff like that, but i'd like some more ideas to fill it with! i really wanna help her and i think this would be good for just ANYBODY you know! throw together a lil binder, maybe a couple cheapy-fun gifts to get them un-depressed! anyway, does anyone have any creative ideas that i can add to the packet? maybe like go out on a walk in the sun...i really have no idea actually, lol. thanks for your help!

-dK

also---> any idea on how to make the pages all cool and creative-like so she'll enjoy looking at them? remember: this is a low-budget (free would even be nice) project im tryin to do so nothing fancy please

What a great idea. I'll think on it and get back to you. A big pat on the back for you for being so creative and thoughtful.

That's so sweet of you! Cool and creative pages? Maybe just make them different colors of construction paper and cut out pictures from magazines or something.

OT, but there are far worse ways to be rejected. ^_^

Anyway, I find that helping other people makes me less depressed. This might not really fit in with your packet idea, which I think is awesome; you're a great friend. Like, for example, anonymously leaving flowers on someone's doorstep, or just writing someone a note telling how much you care, or you can get really active and collect canned goods or newspapers, or volunteer at a shelter/nursing home/food shelter.

I think that a big part of what kept me from being depressed in HS was the fact that I was very active and involved and I *felt* like I was making a difference.

Now in college, even though I'm active, I feel like what I do doesn't matter all that much... So, in line with the packet idea, find some way to tell her (song, video, cards, letters) that what she does is important to you (and others)....

My most treasured possession *ever* is this note I got when I was a senior in HS from an underclassman friend of mine which told me how she was often depressed and I brightened her day and how I was the first person to make her feel like she belonged... I carry it in my purse and read it whenever I'm feeling useless... It gives me some resolve to keep going. ^_^

Anyway, good luck!

Tashi delek!

make a journal part, and have her analyze her deepest feelings- once it's been analyzed she'll feel better once she lets it go

I'd put a journal in it because it's always healthy to write stuff out that you feel.

I'd also put some affirmations in it. Just cause I like those a lot.

I'd put something tasty in there too, chocolate works for me.

Perhaps a cool positive book....

You could make it a basket ....

See, now I can get carried away with stuff like this

I wrote about this in my depression book and there are lots of fun ways to chase away the blues.

One of the ideas in my book is a memento box. They can put things that make them feel good like pictures letters and so on... when the person feels bad. They are supposed to open the box and look through it. It helps cheer people up
