Question Need Suggestions from parents (for a well meaning aunt)

Well, My niece is turning 6 next week (they are growing up WAY too fast).

On Saturday she is having a "my little pony" themed birthday party with 5 friends and her cousin (the other little nieceling, 4 months younger).
Friday night the 2 nieces are having a sleepover at my sis-in-laws house.
Both girls LOVE animals.

Sis-in-law and I are planning a surprise for them Friday night. My horse is a big white poofball right now, so I am going to get him all decked out in pink ribbons, hair spray paint some symbols on his hip (a la My little pony), lots of glitter etc... and Sis-in-law will bring the girls out for a pony ride on a larger than life sized MLP. {for those who know horses, he is an 18 year old dressage schoolmaster - my best friend and a gentleman and I have been coaching kids riding for years - the girls will be safe}.

IT is COLD out here, we do have an indoor riding arena, but even that is cold, but wind free.

What suggestions do you have to make this surprise for such a great pair of nieces go well?
Should I keep it short? Bring hot cocoa? Heating packs to keep their toes toasty?
Any suggestions to make it better?
I'm childless, but love being an aunt (borrow child, go to fair, feed cotton candy and return to sender ) But seriously - I want to make this a special birthday surprise gift .. the girls are wonderful kids and I adore them.

Thanks so much,
an Aunt anxious to make the day special.

What a neat idea! I think the girls won't even notice it is cold with such a big surprise!

A thermos of hot chocolate sounds like a grand idea!

Both my little girls are too grown-up for stuff like that.

Wow, what a great Aunt you are. I wish I was little again and had someone like you in my family.
I really think that having the hot chocolate to warm up would be good. I would make sure that none of the kids have allergies or anything first though. This can be done by checking with the parents, just make sure to let them know that it is a surprise so they don't say something in front of their kids and ruin it for your niece.
You never know though if one of the other kids are afraid of horses, are allergic to animals and/or chocolate. So I would definitely ask ahead of time.

I agree though about the cold. I doubt that they will notice. Just make sure everyone is dressed warm and things should be fine. And take lots of pics, of course.
I'm sure this will be a birthday bash that will be remembered for the rest of her life.
Happy birthday to her.
