I know that the Daemonorops draco is a resin from some rattan palm in malaysia, but I did a google search and couldn't find out anything about the actual palm, only the actual resin take from the plant. I am wondering if there is a different name for the plant and not the resin, I'm wondering where it is possible to grow it besides it's native land, how big/tall it gets, what the actual palm looks like, etc....
anyone know any good sites? or is there anyone who's an expert on the Daemonorops draco? thanks! |

Heres some info that helps. Its classification is whats complicated. This is from this web site....click.
rattan[ratan´] Pronunciation Key, name for a number of plants of the genera Calamus, Daemonorops, and Korthalsia climbing palms of tropical Asia, belonging to the family Palmae (palm family). Rattan leaves, unlike those of most palms, are not clustered into a crown; they have long, whiplike barbed tips by which the plant climbs to the tops of trees. From the stem, noted for its extraordinary length (often several hundred feet) is obtained the rattan cane of commerce, a slender, flexible tough cane of uniform diameter, usually split for wickerwork, baskets, and chair seats and left entire for walking sticks, e.g., the Malacca cane. A resin that exudes from the fruit is known commercially as dragon's blood. Rattan plants are classified in the division Magnoliophyta, class Liliopsida, order Arecales, family Palmae. Its crazy all the searching just to get this little bit. |

I love dragons blood. The smell of it just takes me away. But man it is a difficult plant to get straight forward info on. But I bet if I was multilingo I could of gotten a lot of information. I noticed there are a lot of non-english sites in my searches.
It a 1/2 an hour to find the little info I did and I gave up after another hour didnt produce much more.

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate all the searching you did, I basicaly ran into the same problems, websites in different languages and tiny summaries... mostly all I could find is people selling chunks of the stuff.
I have some dragons blood ink, and I love it. It's beautiful when it dries. ![]() thanks again for your help! |
