Their executing mt. lions

It’ old news to some of you that the group of towns where I live are isolated and surrounded by wilderness. Just as our bay is healthy and full of sea life our mountains and forest are too. Not a week goes by with out a mountain loin report of taking live stock, a pet or strolling through a neighbor hood.

Now ranchers shoot them all the time. I have no issue with that I can see their point of view. Rangers will track and shoot or trap and relocate troublesome animals as well. I have no issue with either of those ether.

But these last three were tracked captured, caged and shot. That’s an execution and for some reason has me so pissed I could kill. If their intention was to kill them why didn’t they just shoot them in the wild. I’ll tell ya why. So the carcasses of these beautiful animals could be put on display as a political trophy. I swear I’m gonna set something on fire.

That is quite bad. Well, I don't know how they did it, but they killed off ALL the coyotes in Oceanside. ALL. I mean, ok, I know they were eating pets and whatnot, but all of them? I mean, total extermination? That's just wrong. There HAD to be a better solution.

Did you inquire as to why they were killed or are you just assuming it was "political"??

Rumor has it, cougars have been introduced by the Games and Parks folks here in Nebraska. INTRODUCED! Supposedly it will help with the "deer problem". I agree that there are entirely too many deer running around, but isn't that how nature works? Populations are constantly in a state of flux!

So anyways, people are worried about being attacked by big cats, one was even shot for being in a city. They shouldn't have introduced those beautiful cats if they were just going to kill them.

Well considering the norm is to shoot the animal in the wild and document the kill and this time they shot them in town in cages and displayed the bodies in a “lookie what we did for you” way. What reason for that is there other than political or public relations?

Like I said before ranchers and rangers kill them more than rarely, I have no issues with it. Just the way these three were done is just plain wrong. I really hope it bites then in the ass PR wise. I have yet to come across someone in town that feels it wasn’t wrong, even two ranches that wanted them dead that I talked to said just having the rangers say they killed the animals works for them and that this was unnecessary.

edit -
Oh yeah you asked why they were killed

They were killed because they were getting daring and more comfortable with taking live stock and coming into populated areas. So the why isn’t a question, the should isn’t even an issue it’s the how that was wrong.

Common sense? Eliminate things that might attract coyotes like open garbage containers or bird seed, keep pets indoors, that sort of thing?

Or how about smell and taste aversion substances? Noise and shock devices? Fencing?

More than likely it was done to make the townsfolk aware of how serious the problem really is.
