  • New Book: "Sow"

Well.... life is moving fast and furious for lil 'ole me. I got word from a publisher today that my 3rd book has been picked up!

    whoooo hoooo!!!!!!:hahugh:

This one is nice. I promise. It is about drawing on the redemptive power of nature to heal our own lives....

or some other such non-sense... I never do know.

Why is it called 'Sow' you big tease, or is that self-evident from actually reading the book?

      because its a homophone.....

Sow as in sowing seeds is the primary meaning....

but also... so..... 'where do we go from here..."

and "sew" to sticht together or bind up"

of course my best friend here looked at and said "Sow" as in a female pig... sigh... thank's a lot!

...but that's exactly what I did!

The ambiguity of words can lead to many cliff tops (from where irate writers push you off!)

Congratulations! Sounds like a fantastic theme for a book.

maybe its that with my friends who know me (yourself incl. Tyger).... female pig leaps most quickly to mind....

helping me out will be a photographer friend who will instill it with cover art of hands planting a seedling I'm thinking.. and NOT a lactating pig.

Now that raises an interesting question. Although I knew that you had posted the thread when I saw the word "sow" I did immediately think of a female pig - but not with any kind of logical relationship to yourself!

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a gardner or grower of things? I just don't sow seeds you see.

On the other hand I'm not into keeping domesticated animals either, the two cats we have are not mine by choice, so why would I think of a pig when I see the word 'sow'?

Yep, an image that leaves the subject matter in no doubt whatsoever might be in order, otherwise pig-fanciers could end being a bit disappointed when they pick this book up!

              :uhhuhuh:

My first thought was an oink-oink sow as well :giggle:

                            I think I have psychosis!

In fact I think I've discovered why I thought 'female pig' instead of sowing seeds when I read the title. We had a rural studies unit at my senior high school in which there was a sow, as in female pig, that was used for breeding. All the male piglets had to be castrated before they became mean biting boars and my class was involved in the castration of the little 'uns as part of our education!

I can still remember the little piglets squeeling and the sow screaming at us from behind what seemed like a very flimsy board as it shook when the mother pig threw herself against it. I've never felt comfortable around pigs since!

I'm glad that we don't have any piggy smilies now!
