  • Hot buttered rum?

    I want to make hot buttered rum, but I don't know what kind of rum would be best to use. Any suggestions?

    Any kind of rum works, but I like dark rum better than light. Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum is excellent.

          I googled "hot butter rum" and got a lot of sources... drinkmixer.com, bartender.com and so on.....

            I just bought a "mix" from the store. The ingredient mix say that it contains brown sugar and various spices, and to add 1 1/2 Tbsp of it to a jigger of rum along with boiling water and 1 Tbsp of butter.

              I got this awhile back from another site. I haven't made it yet so I can't give an opinion, but here goes:

              Hot Buttered Rum Mix

              * 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
              * 1/2 (16 ounce) package confectioners' sugar, sifted
              * 1/2 pound light brown sugar, packed
              * 2 cups vanilla ice cream, softened

              UK measurements:
              * 115 g unsalted butter, softened
              * 225 g confectioners' sugar, sifted
              * 225 g light brown sugar, packed
              * 265 g vanilla ice cream, softened

              1. In a large bowl cream the butter and the sugars together until smooth. Add the softened ice cream and mix until a creamy consistency is obtained. Transfer this to a freezer container with a tight fitting lid. Place in the freezer for up to 1 month.
              2. To Serve: Place a heaping 2 tablespoons of the frozen mix in a highball glass or coffee mug. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons dark rum. Pour over the mix 6 ounces of boiling water and stir until the mixture is melted. Sprinkle top with cinnamon or nutmeg and serve forth!

                    Hot Buttered Rum Batter Recipe

                    1 tsp ground cloves
                    1 tsp ground nutmeg
                    1 tsp ground cinnamon
                    1 tsp ground cardamon
                    1/2 lb of unsalted butter
                    1/2 lb of brown sugar
                    1/2 lb of confectioner's sugar
                    2 cups of softened vanilla ice cream

                    Blend all ingredients in mixer or food processor. Place into a tight closing freezer type of container. ( can be stored up to one month)
                    When You wish to make a drink, add a shot of Captain Morgan's or Meyer's(your preferance) Spiced Rum and
                    2 Tablespoons of this Batter in a coffee type cup add boiling water to finish filling the cup. Stir with a cinnamon stick for garnish if desired.

                      Colonial Hot Buttered Rum Recipe

                      I found a recipe for making it in a crockpot..
                      This recipe for Colonial Hot Buttered Rum serves/makes 15

                      Ingredients:
                      2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
                      1/2 cup butter or margarine
                      1 pinch salt
                      3 sticks cinnamon
                      6 whole cloves
                      1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
                      2 cups rum
                      heavy cream -- whipped
                      ground nutmeg -- for topping

                      Directions:

                      Put all ingredients, except rum and cream, and nutmeg into crockpot. Add 2 quarts hot water. Stir well. Cover pot and cook on LOW for 5 hours. Add rum; stir to blend. Serve from pot in warm mugs with a scoop of whipped cream and a dusting of nutmeg.
