I know that meditating daily is very good for helping to learn how to focus your mind and energies, but I just can't seem to figure out how to get started. Is there any special technique you're supposed to do or do you just sit quietly for awhile and try to clear or mind or focus on something?
Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.

Your heart understands what your head cannot yet conceive, trust your heart.

    Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.

It's a great satisfaction knowing that for a brief point in time you made a difference.

To be loved is fortunate, but to be hated is to achieve distinction.

Local prayer bead advocate popping in....

Grab a string of beads, doesn't really matter how many, but it's best if they are pretty much the same size and shape. Round about 6 or 8 mm works very well.

Pick a word that you want to focus on, peace, quiet, stillnes, healing, or any other word.

You can also use a phrase or affirmation, or a short prayer. Keep it simple, and make it something you don't really have to think about. Then say it. Every time you say it, move to the next bead and say it again. Do this for as long as you want. Eventually it becomes mindless, allowing your mind to clear while you just say the word.

That's it!!! When I get paid, I'm going to the craft store and getting beads.... wait.... I can do a knot string... embroydery floss with a knot every 1/2 inch or so.... how many would you recomend?

I used to have a lovely string of meditation beads... garnet colored glass with a bell on the end....

A Buddhist mala has 108 beads. With a simple three word phrase (Stillness surrounds me or somthing like that) softly chanted, that would give you a good bit of meditation time. You could shorten it or stretch it out as much as you like! Put the knots so that there is just enough space between them to fit your fingertip, basically so you can easily move from one to the next with your eyes closed, but not so far apart that your string becomes a mile long.

I'm a big believer in music therapy. I have always had a terrible time getting my brain to SHUT UP---except when I'm listening to some music, especially really entracing music. For me, it's usually Enya or something classical like Beethoven or Bach. I seem to fall into the music & lose consciousness of anything else. It especially works well when it's dark, or dim, in the room, and I close my eyes. A few deep breaths to relax, and....it's almost like going to sleep.....but not quite.

OH, I got this great CD "The Celtic Circle". It's a double cd, and the first track on the first disc is from "The Mists of Avalon". It is so...primal & tribal sounding....works for me every time.....But, I also have "Moonlit Night" (one of those Target generic lifestyles cds) and "Prarie Meadow" that work very well for me, too.
