  • Your Favorite Spreads

Okay, let's share some spreads that we use ALL the time; you know, the ol' faithfuls we can't live without.

What are your favorite spreads; those spreads that you find yourself returning to time and again for all kinds of readings? Are you a Celtic cross person, or do you use a variety of spreads? Please share!

As for me, I've never been a big fan of the Celtic cross. I find the readings I get from it relatively vague. It's not bad for getting the "big picture," but it lacks much in the way of direction or advice. Here are some of my favorites.

    Daily Spread

Just like it sounds, this is one I use for daily readings.

    [1] [2] [3]

    1 - Today's blessings
    2 - Today's challenges
3 - Advice for the day

I originally designed on the fly for a reading and I return to it OFTEN:

    __________[5]___[6]
    ____[3]___[4]
    ______[1]___[2]

1, 2 - Challenges. What you must overcome to move forward.

3, 4 - Strengths. That which will help you move forward.

5, 6 - Advice. The best path forward.

I often use this as a three-card daily spread, too. But for longer readings, I find 6 cards (or even 9) gives a good amount of information to work with.

For relationship questions (which I get a ton of!), I find this spread very helpful. The layout forms a heart, with the 3 and 4 cards placed sideways over the 1 and 2. This is a spread I modified from another I found, but I don't recall where I found the original.

    ______1|3______2|4
    ____5______12_____6
    __7________________8
    _____9__________10
    ___________11

1-My view on the relationship overall
2-My partner's view on the relationship overall
3-What crosses me in the relationship? Obstacles. (crosses the 1 card)
4-What crosses my partner in the relationship? (crosses the 2 card)
    5-How I see the other
    6-How the other see me
7-What do I need from this relationship?
8-What does my partner need in this relationship?
9-What does the relationship need to strengthen it?
10-Hidden factors. What we are not seeing/aware of?
    11-Where is the relationship going?
12 - A snapshot of the two of us together. How we fit/don't fit.

I use a 5 card spread for almost everything, but many times I'll just make something up for the situation / question.

Here are the 5 cards I usually use:

    1...2...3...4...5

    1. General influence
    2. How you feel about the situation
    3. How the other party (not necessarily romantic) feels about the situation
    4. An obstacle
    5. Advice

    I also use:

    1. General influence
    2. Subconcious influences
    3. Obstacles
    4. Your ultimate goal
    5. How you can achieve your goal / other advice

These are easy to remember and they can be adapted easily to just about any question.
:fpraise: All hail the mighty SEARCH function! :fpraiseyo

      I have two real favorites.

      Merlin's Mirror Spread.
Each of us need to know ourselves better: this is the prime directive of esoteric living and without it we are directionless and unhappy because we can never solve the reasons why things don't go right in our lives. Some people spend their whole lives blaming circumstance or others for their own misfortunes, but fail to understand their own inadequacies that are often at the root of the matter. The Merlin's Mirror Spread reflects our three faces; the one we show to others, the one we wish to be and the real self which lies hidden at the centre. This is not a reading to be undertaken lightly and is a very personal one that many queiriants are not able to cope with. I have had some wonderful resutls from it however and find it a wonderful way to help others really get to know themselves.

      Meanings of Positions.
      1. The face I show to the world.
      2. The reasons why I assume this mask, my hidden fears.
      3. What I expect to gain by presenting this persona.
      4. What am I doing with my life?
      5. Who I would like to be.
      6. What prevents me from becoming this person?
      7. What opportunities am I avoiding?
      8. How do I envisage my life becoming?
      9. The real me.
      10. What is my life purpose?
      11. What still needs to be assimilated into the real me?
      12. What inessential part of my persona am I shoring up?
      13. The next step on my journey. What I should bear in mind.

My other favorite since I'm a geeky Kabbalist.

        Tree of Life Spread.
This spread demonstrates how one may appraise a situation, a project or a plan. The Tree of Life is the prime symbolic system of the Kabbalah/ Qabalah/ Qabala, which is a study in itself. For that reason the spread positions outlined here show the Jewish title of each sephira with its English counterpart. Beneath these are their adapted titles which derive from the qualities and functions of each position.

        Meanings of Positions
        1. What is the source of the matter?
        2. What energy impels it?
        3. What form does it take?
        4. How is it promoted/ assisted?
        5. How is it opposed?
        6. How is it expressed?
        7. What are your felings about it?
        8. What are your thoughts about it?
        9. What triggers its manifestation?
        10. How does it manifest?
        11. Future prospects.

This sounds like a great spread for deeper insight. I'm going to have to give it a try! Thanks for sharing it.

Merlin's Mirror is a real phsyco analasis spread I find. It delves very deeply into a person which is why I stated it was not to be undertaken lightly. Often it finds dark hidden secrets that the queriant is loathed to have uncovered but it can really help them if they are willing to do the work to aprouch their problems. The hardest part with this spread is accepting responcability for oneself. Many people aren't ready to go this far. For those wanting to find the deep answers it is a jem of a spread but I only use this with people I intened to give good back up suport too after. Again I'm finding that this whole journey into ones own self to face the demonds with in is once again making itself heard. We resently did a similar thing in Qabala class and then someone posted about shadow journeys in Magic and Ritual. Even this whole forum is under going a similar journey right now, with Mol seeking to improve it and enhanse it by seeking out its problem areas. Seams to be a very currant area of importance to a lot of folks right now which was partly my reason for posting it I think :D

For myself i usually just pull a few cards, if a card shows up that i want more detail about i'll pull another card over that one to get more insight into it. I also do a little 3 card reading for myself or my bf most the time.

For others, i like to go a lot more indepth, and for this my favourite spreads are celtic cross spread and the astrological spread. I usually use the celtic cross for question readings, or readings based on a particular area of the querents life. Astrological spread i use for general readings, to look at all aspects of a querents life. I know the celtic cross is very popular but i will still put my version, as there are so many different version of it. Also, i like giving relationship readings - and i use a spread specifically for relationships.

              Celtic cross spread :

              _______________________ 10
              _____________5
              ________________________9
              _______4____1/2____6____
              _____________3__________8
              ________________________7

              1. Current influences
              2. Arising events
              3. Foundation of situation
              4. Passing influences
              5. What is desired
              6. Arriving influences
              7. Enviroment
              8. Strong points and advantages
              9. Hopes and fears
              10. Likely outcome

              Astrological spread :

              _____________________10_____________________

              ________________11________9_________________

              ___________12_________________8_____________

              _______6____________________________7_______

              ___________2__________________6_____________

              ________________3_________5_________________

              _____________________4______________________

              1. Personality influences of the querent.
              2. Querents sense of value
              3. Communication with others
              4. Home life
              5. Love life (House of passion)
              6. Work life
              7. Love life (long term commitments)
              8. Querents 'power'
              9. Querents philosphy on life

              11. Social life
              12. Mystical/spiritual life.

              Relationship spread :

              1__2__3__4__5

              6__7__8__9__10

The relationship from the querents point of view =
              1. Origins of the relationship
              2. Where it is coming from.
              3. Present - Where the relationship is coming from
              4. Where it is going
              5. How it ultimately evolves.

The relationship from the other persons (partner) point of view =
              1. Origins of the relationship
              2. Where it is coming from.
              3. Present - Where the relationship is coming from

              5. How it ultimately evolves.

Wow, there are some great spreads here. I'm definitely going to try Bethra's Merlin spread and FGM's relationship spread.

I usually stick to the Celtic Cross and I use some basic 3 or 5 card spreads for daily readings.

I'll post one or two of my cool spreads later when I get home.

Rhianna, I like that Prosperity Pyramid spread--I've had quite a tough time finding a good all-around spread to address money issues, so I'll have to give that one a try.

Hmmm. I've been thinking about collecting a bunch of spreads and putting them on my website for easy reference. I'm wondering if those of you who contributed favorite spreads here could tell me whether or not the spreads you posted are your own original spreads or if you happen to know who created them so I can credit the original source. Also, if you don't want your spread re-posted on my site, let me know! Thanks. :D
