    Arrow Are you a synaesthete?

Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which there is a merging of the senses, so that activity in one sensory modality elicits sensations in another.

Does anyone else here have Synesthesia?
    What kind do you have?

I never knew there was a name for it until recently.
I thought everyone saw things the way I did lol

Anyways I have number form synesthesia (I mentally map numbers) and also a rare type called time-space synesthesia (I can see time)

:raises hand: My brain likes to associate most everything to visual and tactile. Mint tastes like a smooth blue tube, for example.

I also have numeric prominence (some numbers appear larger and more bold than others, even in the same typeface), which is a really weird one.

I associate numbers with colors.. and to me numbers have substance. It’s hard to explain but when seeing or hearing numbers.. they are not abstract , they have texture, weight and temperature..

Certain foods or tastes evoke physical sensations.. Lemon (even hot lemon tea) feels frigid, sour things are prickly, spicy foods are numbing.. etc. wanted to add, theses sensations are not in my mouth but more on my back and arms, sometimes my chest. Not sure if that is synaesthetic but definitely not the typical reaction…

I’m not sure if this is what you mean but when I look at, for instance, a shiny leather armchair or dark wooden doors, I’m instantly reminded of chocolate and I can almost taste it. This happens when I see other objects (but not everything) too. Another is when I look at certain new cars, I will be reminded of fruit. It depends on the texture and colours of things that make me want to "eat" it. I don’t know if that is exactly called Synesthesia?

The only thing that sucks around here is a straw.

Synesthesia is often confused or associated with empathy. There are several threads in this forum about it.

I guess in a way I may have it but… Instead of smelling things with my nose I do it with my tongue. I don’t actually have a sense of smell.
I want to learn, I want to expand, I want to internalize

I am trying to learn to read Tarot but haven’t found people willing to let me read them. Suggestions?

This may be more empathic. Numbers and words have energies or codes embedded in them and the longer I look at them, i can feel them break down in their energetic parts.

I am a synaestete. I am a musician and I see music in color, shape, and texture. I use it to direct choir and teach voice. It’s helpful to me, but it is often difficult to translate it in terms that other singers can understand!

Please try! This is very interesting. For example how does it help you out o direct the choir or with voice coaching?
